World Traders and guests attended All Hallows by the Tower for our annual Thanksgiving Service followed by Summer Lunch at Trinity House. There was a Platinum Jubilee theme throughout with the hymns including All People that on Earth do Dwell that was sung at the Coronation. The choir – Fever Pitch – sang the anthem O Thou the Central Orb which was performed at the National Service of Thanksgiving in St Paul’s for the Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The Master read out the Loyal Address that she had sent to Her Majesty in February and the National Anthem was sung after the Act of Re-dedication when Company members confirmed the pledges they made on admission to the Company and the Livery. In her remarks at lunch the Master noted that she had chosen Jerusalem and Thine be the Glory to the tune Maccabeus as these will feature during her 26th appearance with the BBC Symphony Chorus at the Last Night of the Proms in September.
The Beadle then lead the Master and Wardens in procession to Trinity House by literally walking out into the road and stopping the traffic! It’s amazing what an impressive staff and a group of people in fancy gowns can achieve! Following a Pimms reception a Jubilee lunch was served which included Salmon and Sole Balmoral, Crown of Lancashire Lamb, The Queen’s duo of chocolate perfection pie with ATS Camberley custard and Sandringham Estate honey ice cream and Windsor Red cheese with Dubonnet Jelly.
At 3.15 the Clerk interrupted the lively conversations around the table and suggested we might like to think about going home!
