World Traders were delighted to witness the election of Court Assistant Andrew Marsden to the High Office of Sheriff of the City of London at Common Hall on Midsummer’s Day (Friday, June 24th). This is part of the ancient tradition of the City which all Liverymen are entitled to attend so they can exercise their right to vote. Andrew’s election was unanimous on a show of hands, scrutinised by the current Sheriffs, as was that of his fellow Sheriff, Alderman Alastair King. Also in accordance with tradition, the newly elected Sheriffs and their consorts then visited all the Halls where Liverymen were lunching so we were able to congratulate Andrew personally on his brief visit to our lunch at Butchers’ Hall. Andrew and Alastair will be admitted to office on 28th September which is the day before the election of the Lord Mayor.
Congratulations Andrew!
