With the keenly-awaited, annual pancake race around Guildhall Yard changed this year due to rain, we instead gathered for a simple pancake flipping competition in the Crypt.
Your Master, in full regalia, armed with a mighty skillet and the fulsome backing of a fine group of Company representatives – including Master Consort Corinne, Grandson Malik, and Past Masters Mary and Mark Hardy – battled against a group of other Masters and Liverymen.
The top prize, itself a fair amount of dough, was ultimately taken by Jenny Rolls, Upper Warden, Tylers and Bricklayers, who tossed her pancake an astonishing 80 times in 30 seconds. 1st Prize in the Fancy Dress category was won by a Queen from the Plaisterers’ Company (who knew?) regally portrayed by Liveryman Philip Cowen.
With skillets duly retired and more pancakes consumed, the guests proceeded to a well-deserved buffet lunch. A very fine time indeed!
