When you think about it, we had a marvellous time.
The evening of 5th September at historic St Lawrence Jewry saw the inaugural Reflections of the Sheriff, based on the highly acclaimed series ‘Reflections of the Lord Mayor’, raising important sums for the Sheriffs’ and Recorder’s Fund.
Exceptionally well-organised by Liveryman Chris Seow – who originated these events nearly 10 years ago – the evening began with Chris providing an overview, followed by a formal welcome by Sir Charles Bowman. Andrew Marsden then led a packed audience on a stimulating and hugely entertaining journey recounting his year as Sheriff, providing a “behind the curtain” look at what it truly means to be a non-Aldermanic Sheriff, tights and all!
From the staggering number of charitable events to dinners, tours and speeches – often accompanied by his remarkable Consort “Maid” Marian (with whom he memorably exchanged vows during his year, itself a record event) – to a perilous and much appreciated trip to Kyiv and Lviv in Ukraine together with Liveryman Richard Burge, Andrew reinforced the importance of the roles we can all play in supporting our extraordinary City of London and its traditions.
Following a Q&A session, Chris wrapped up the evening, with Sir David Wooten providing the closing remarks. Huge thanks to Andrew and Chris and to all the other speakers and support team for a remarkable evening!
