On 11 September, eight World Traders spent a thoroughly enjoyable time scrambling over Pumas and Chinooks, celebrating the Company’s affiliation with 28 Squadron at RAF Benson.

Warmly welcomed by Wing Commander Ryan Beynon, the visit included a tour of important air force assets and the chance to learn from a number of the squadron’s technical staff and airmen and included a generous, yet delightfully simple lunch. Throughout, Baroness Sue Garden regaled the assembled airmen with wonderful, often riveting stories of her many years as a member of the RAF family. This was followed by the Master, together with Sue, awarding Cpl Sophie McCombe our annual award for excellence.

Cpl McCombe was commended for going above and beyond in all aspects of her work, delivering to the highest of standards whilst deployed on multiple exercises in spite of numerous challenges. Acknowledged as an Aviator of the highest calibre, Cpl McCombe richly deserved the commendation. We also took the opportunity to donate a small sum to the RAF Benevolent Fund.

All agreed a very fine day indeed!
