On Friday, 28 March, Past Masters Mark and Mary Hardy, accompanied by Liveryman Bevan Killick, were delighted to be able to go on board the World Traders’ affiliated ship HMNZS Canterbury. She was in maintenance at Devonport in Auckland having returned the previous week from her annual deployment to the Sub-Antarctic supporting the scientists and research station based there. By happy coincidence the Hardys were in Auckland at the end of their holiday and Bevan was able to arrange the visit.
Whilst on board Mary made the inaugural presentation of the World Traders’ Bowl to Petty Officer Marine Technician (Propulsion) Sanjay Goundar for his dedication to the Royal New Zealand Navy which contributed to world trade. The Company in addition gave him a cash award and made a contribution to the ship’s welfare fund. A letter was received from the Commanding Officer, Commander Bron Heslop, thanking us for our support and noting that they are honoured to be the only non-British warship to be supported by a Livery Company.
If any Past Masters happen to be Auckland this time next year please let Bevan know to see if he can arrange a repeat performance!
