Thanks to Junior Warden elect Michael Larson, Word Traders were able to enjoy a summer evening of outdoor opera at Holland Park.

L’amico Fritz, is a feel-good romantic comedy set amidst cherry orchards and vineyards by Pietro Mascagni, the composer of Cavalleria Rusticana, showing us his gentler side and reminding us what friendship is about.  For Fritz thinks his life’s a bowl of cherries. Could it be even better if he shared it with someone? Maybe things are just a little too comfortable. He has plenty of money and friends, and even a violinist whose tunes always cheer him up. He is convinced that marriage is not for him. Suzel would like to change his mind, but Fritz won’t get the hint. Could it be time for one of these friends, the local rabbi, to step in and help things along?

We met for a picnic supper on the Terrace and then enjoyed the opera sitting on socially distanced and ancient chairs (each one having been at a production somewhere in the UK) under the large awning which is the Holland Park Marquee. It was a little chilly as the evening drew on but many of us enjoyed the opera none the less.
